In a moment of high emotion – the first piece of legislation on the Voice has been introduced to Parliament. Attorney General Mark Dreyfus took what he said was the “first formal step” in enshrining an Indigenous Voice to Parliament by introducing the legislation, which includes proposed amendments to the constitution in it. He said the referendum was about rectifying Australia’s founding legal document. The bill will go to a Parliamentary committee which will scrutinise the legislation.
